The Engineering Team
As part of York Formula Student’s engineering team, we design, build, and develop our own race car in our dedicated workshop, working across disciplines like aerodynamics, electronics, and manufacturing to bring the project together. Throughout the year, we collaborate closely to test, refine, and improve the car’s performance, gaining hands-on experience that mirrors a real motorsport environment. The culmination of our work is competing at Formula Student at Silverstone Circuit, where we race against other universities and take part in static engineering events. It’s a challenging but rewarding process that pushes us to develop both technical and teamwork skills while representing the university on a national stage.
The Drivers Team
As part of York Formula Student, we’ve been building our presence in the Formula Student Sim Racing (esports) series since the team was founded in 2022, competing in virtual races and engineering challenges against other universities. While we’re still a relatively new team, we’ve shown strong progress with improving performances and some standout results. A highlight of our journey so far has been travelling to Williams Racing to compete in the Formula Student Sim Racing Championship, which gave us valuable experience competing at a higher level and reinforced our ambition to keep improving and establish ourselves as a top team.
The Business Team
As part of York Formula Student’s business team, we focus on the marketing, branding, and commercial side of the project, helping to promote the team and secure sponsorship while also developing and maintaining our website to showcase our progress and achievements. We work on presenting a professional image of the team throughout the season, combining outreach, media, and strategy to support the engineering and racing efforts. The highlight of our year is presenting our business case at Formula Student held at Silverstone Circuit, where we pitch to industry judges and demonstrate the commercial viability of our team, applying real-world business and communication skills in a competitive environment.
Winter Formal with Motorsport Society
Each year, as the colder months set in, York Formula Student trades helmets for suits and gathers for its much-anticipated winter formal. It’s an evening where teammates come together not to compete, but to celebrate everything they’ve built over the year—late nights in the workshop, race-day highs, and the shared passion that fuels it all.
