The Engineering Team
As part of York Formula Student's engineering team, we design, build and develop our own race car in our dedicated workshop, combining disciplines like aerodynamics, electronics and manufacturing to bring the project together. Our collaboration combines to give us hands-on experience that mirrors a real motorsport environment, including our annual turn competing at Formula Student at Silverstone Circuit each July, racing other universities and taking part in static engineering events. This process pushes us to develop both technical and teamwork skills while representing the university on a national stage.
The Drivers Team
As part of York Formula Student we've been building our presence in the sim racing series happening throughout the academic year, competing in virtual races and engineering challenges against our competitors including our yearly trip to Williams Racing to compete in the final round of the Formula Student Sim Racing Championship. Despite being a relatively new team our progress has been impressive, including placing 3rd overall in the competition in the 2024-25 season and 4th overall in 2025-26.
The Business Team
As part of York Formula Student's business team, we focus on the marketing, branding and commercial side of the project, helping promote the team and secure sponsorship while maintaining our website to showcase our progress and achievements. We work on presenting a professional image of the team throughout the season, with our media strategy supporting the engineering and racing efforts. The highlight of the year is presenting our business case at Formula Student held at Silverstone Circuit, pitching an idea to industry judges and demonstrating the commercial viability of the team, applying real-world business and communication skills in a competitive environment.
Winter Formal with Motorsport Society
Each year, as the colder months set in, York Formula Student trades helmets for suits and gathers for its much-anticipated winter formal. It’s an evening where teammates come together not to compete, but to celebrate everything they’ve built over the year—late nights in the workshop, race-day highs, and the shared passion that fuels it all.
